Recipe costing is free for one person, up to 10 recipes.

What gets in your way

  • Prices copied from next door

Their costs aren't yours. A price that works for them can lose you money on every piece.

  • Ingredients move every month

Butter jumps, flour creeps up, and the spreadsheet you made last year no longer tells the truth.

  • Costs nobody counts

Rent, energy, boxes and labels are part of every loaf, even when they're not on the recipe card.

How Farinu helps

  • Recipe costing to the gram

Add ingredients and packaging once. Every recipe shows its cost per batch and per piece, fixed costs included.

  • Margin alerts

When an ingredient's price changes, Farinu recalculates every recipe that uses it and tells you which ones fell below the markup you set over cost.

  • Price lists

Keep shop, wholesale and café prices per recipe, and see each one's margin before you send it.

A batch of sourdough, costed

Here is how Farinu costs a batch of 12 sourdough loaves, from what you paid for each ingredient to the price it suggests.

Flour, water, salt and starter for 12 loaves
$9.00
Packaging: 12 bags at $0.15
$1.80
Baker's time and oven time for the batch
$14.40
The batch's share of rent, energy and other fixed costs
$6.00
Cost per loaf ($31.20 / 12)
$2.60

With a 60% markup, Farinu suggests $2.60 × 1.6 = $4.16, or $4.20 rounded to a 10-cent price step. When butter or flour goes up, the cost per loaf follows.

Questions

How precise is the costing?
Quantities go to the gram or the unit, and money is stored in your currency's smallest unit, so totals never drift.
Can I include fixed costs?
Yes. Add rent, energy and other monthly costs in your bakery settings and they're shared across your recipes.
What happens when an ingredient price changes?
Update the price once and every recipe that uses the ingredient, directly or inside a sub-recipe, is costed again. Margin alerts point out the recipes a price list now sells below your markup.
How does Farinu suggest a price?
It takes the cost per piece and adds your markup: cost × (1 + markup), rounded to the price step you choose. Set a target price on a recipe instead, and Farinu shows the margin it leaves.
