How much do home bakers charge? The 2026 home baker pricing survey

How much do home bakers charge is a question nobody answers with real data yet: most figures online are guesses or a handful of forum posts. This survey, not open yet, will collect prices from home and micro bakers directly, then publish the averages by product and by state, the method, and the anonymized raw table. The link to take part will be posted on this page when it opens. Until the results are out, the honest answer is that your price should start from your own cost, not from someone else's menu.

What the survey will measure

We will ask each baker what they charge for a short list of common products, sized the same way for everyone so the numbers can be compared. We will also ask where they sell and how they arrived at the price.

Average cake price by state: how we will report it

Results will show the median and the typical range for each product, overall and by state. A state only gets its own figure once enough bakers there have answered; until then it is grouped with its region, so one answer never stands in for a whole state.

We report medians rather than plain averages because a few wedding-cake prices would pull an average far away from what most bakers charge.

Method

The survey will be opt-in and open to anyone who bakes and sells from home or a small kitchen. Answers will be anonymous: we will publish no names, business names or contact details, only aggregated figures and a raw table stripped of anything that identifies a baker.

Because people will choose to take part, the results will describe the bakers who answered, not every baker in the country. We will say how many answered for each product and region next to every figure.

How to price while you wait

A competitor's price tells you what the market accepts, not what you earn. Cost the recipe first: ingredients, packaging, your time and a share of overhead. Then add the margin you want. Farinu does that for every recipe and suggests a price from your target markup, free for up to 10 recipes.

Questions

When will the results be published?
After the survey has opened and enough bakers have answered to report the main products reliably. The results will be published on this page.
Is my answer anonymous?
Yes. We publish only aggregated figures and a raw table with nothing that identifies you or your business.
How do I take part?
The survey is not open yet. When it opens, the link will be posted on this page. Bakers outside the US will be able to answer too, and their answers will be reported by country, in their own currency.
